Additionally, they changed up their approach to procurement, which should prevent any less-than-ideal powders being used in loads in the future due to a powder crisis (which we may well see in the coming months…yet again). In short, the Freedom Munitions crew set out to fix any issues they knew of or could prevent via manufacturing practices, and all evidence I have seen points to the fact that they have been pretty successful in their endeavor. I didn’t have any problems with either type, but it is a move that I think will serve Freedom well based on the fact that you can’t really predict when a stepped brass casing will exhibit separation along the “step.”įreedom has also improved its powder check system to allow for more accuracy, and newer QC protocols track and curb variances earlier in the process than ever before. Although the SuperMatch I received (now dubbed ProMatch) was one of the last runs with the stepped brass cases, the standard new-production 124 grain was already being loaded with the non-stepped X-Treme brass as of November when I received this ammo. Of note, the stepped brass in 9mm has been phased out as of Q1 2016. More importantly, though, I liked that I could see the changes he told me about as I opened each box and looked through the rounds themselves. The results have been great, and I plan to try out some other Freedom products when time and my wallet permit.īefore I started my evaluation, BJ Norris told me about the impact that some changes in Freedom’s production process have had on the quality of the final product, and I liked what I heard. Over the last few months, I have run almost 1000 rounds of Freedom Munitions 9mm through various pistols.

But over the last year or so, knowing that world class shooters like Janna Reeves, BJ Norris, and Jansen Jones shoot thousands and thousands of rounds of Freedom Munitions each year (presumably without issue, since they tend to do very well in matches) I began to think that it might be time to give Freedom another “shot.” So when Janna emailed me last year about the prospect of taking another look, I was all about it.

X-Treme Brass cases are made on the latest brass manufacturing technology in the USA.Admittedly, my very first review of Freedom Munitions back in 2014 raised some questions for me. X-Treme Bullets Copper Plated projectiles are re-struck to ensure our diameters are precise and consistent from bullet to bullet and lot to lot. Though not common in the industry, this restrike process produces a bullet that is more uniform, with a more precise diameter and a smoother finish for a better shooting and a better looking bullet. The cores are copper plated, then re-struck once more. The lead wire is then swaged into a core. Our process starts with a lead billet that is extruded into wire. X-Treme Bullets are proudly made out of the finest materials available in the United States in order to ensure performance delivered down range with each and every shot. The base of the bullet is also fully coated in copper. The X-Treme Bullet features copper plating applied electrochemically to a precision swaged lead core.
