Additionally, they changed up their approach to procurement, which should prevent any less-than-ideal powders being used in loads in the future due to a powder crisis (which we may well see in the coming months…yet again). In short, the Freedom Munitions crew set out to fix any issues they knew of or could prevent via manufacturing practices, and all evidence I have seen points to the fact that they have been pretty successful in their endeavor. I didn’t have any problems with either type, but it is a move that I think will serve Freedom well based on the fact that you can’t really predict when a stepped brass casing will exhibit separation along the “step.”įreedom has also improved its powder check system to allow for more accuracy, and newer QC protocols track and curb variances earlier in the process than ever before. Although the SuperMatch I received (now dubbed ProMatch) was one of the last runs with the stepped brass cases, the standard new-production 124 grain was already being loaded with the non-stepped X-Treme brass as of November when I received this ammo. Of note, the stepped brass in 9mm has been phased out as of Q1 2016. X-Treme Bullets Copper Plated projectiles are re-struck to ensure our diameters are precise and consistent from bullet to bullet and lot to lot. Though not common in the industry, this restrike process produces a bullet that is more uniform, with a more precise diameter and a smoother finish for a better shooting and a better looking bullet. The cores are copper plated, then re-struck once more. The lead wire is then swaged into a core. Our process starts with a lead billet that is extruded into wire.
